John JungPresident and Chief Executive Officer
As President and CEO, John has led the company from concept to market leadership in grid-scale energy storage technology since joining in 2009. He set the commercial and strategic vision for Greensmith early on: to provide the energy storage technology platform of choice to customers and partners leveraging a battery-agnostic, software-optimized and distributed network approach.
Prior to Greensmith, John spent over 20 years building high-growth, B2B technology companies and was a strategy consultant to a number of vertical sectors including the electric utility industry. John held C-level roles at four venture capital-backed technology companies operating globally, including a consortia-based electronic marketplace that served 21 of the 25 largest electric utilities in North America. John also served as a senior strategy consultant for A.T. Kearney and Braxton Associates in the areas of corporate/business unit strategy, enterprise transformation and portfolio/growth strategy. John holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business and an undergraduate degree in Economics and Sciences from the University of Western Ontario.
Ken KimChief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President
Ken Kim, CTO and SVP, brings over 20 years of experience in engineering, corporate marketing, product management, strategic planning and business development through his experience at global giants Samsung SDI and Intel. From 2006 to 2012, Ken held senior management positions at Samsung SDI including VP of Strategic Marketing and VP of Corporate Strategy.
Ken previously spent over twelve years at Intel in various roles, such as corporate market research, product marketing, new business development and strategic planning. Prior to Intel, Ken worked as a consultant in the power generation industry providing engineering services to utilities by working with companies such as Bechtel and Sargent & Lundy. Ken holds an MBA and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of California at Davis.
Jim MurphyChief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer
Jim has deep experience in financial leadership and operational management for high-growth companies. Most recently, Jim was COO and CFO at DDC Advocacy, the largest full service advocacy communications firm in the nation, providing SaaS based software and services to the Fortune 500 and major industry trade associations. Prior to DDC, Jim was EVP and CFO at Cybertrust, a global leader in security services and the largest privately held Information Security Company with over a 1,000 employees in 40 countries. Jim joined Cybertrust when it had $8M in annual revenue and was instrumental in growing it to over $200M in annual revenue when it was acquired by Verizon in 2007 for ~$500M. Prior to Cybertrust, Jim held C-level positions at various private and public companies. Jim has an MBA from the U.C. Berkeley Haas School of Business and a degree in accounting and MIS from California State University.
Randy SeleskySenior Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing
Randy brings 20 years of experience working in, and leading, sales/marketing organizations within Fortune 500 companies and start-ups where he has a proven track record of driving multimillion-dollar growth and market expansion. Most recently, Randy held sales and business development leadership role at EnerNOC where he grew and led a team of strategic account sales managers in penetrating new accounts and closing new business. Prior to EnerNOC, Randy was CEO and co-founder of Hydrosphere Power Generation. Randy has held a diverse set of leadership positions at Rockwell Automation & GE, including leading the efforts of the power and energy business for Rockwell Automation, and as VP of Product Marketing for the Rockwell Automations software business, sales leadership for GE, and Product marketing roles for GE.
Randy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Northern Illinois University.
Andrew TangSVP, Business Development
Andy brings over two decades of experience in business development, strategic planning, corporate finance and M&A transactional experience to Greensmith. For the past seven years, Andy has been at the forefront of deploying the Smart Grid leading PG&E's upgrade to digital wireless SmartMeters as well as developing and executing demand side management strategies including those focused on the delivery and provision of distributed generation, demand response, the electrification of the transportation sector and energy efficiency. He has been in the role of the regulated service provider as well as in the private sector working for early-stage technology companies.
Andrew holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Economics from Wesleyan University where he was awarded the White Fellowship. In addition, Andrew studied International Economics and History at the London School of Economics, United Kingdom.
Sen ZhangSVP, Engineering
As Vice President of Engineering, Sen leads all R&D, design, and production activities at Greensmith. He is the co-author on Greensmith's patent for the Battery Operating System. With over 18 years of experience in software design and development, Sen has delivered ground-breaking technology products in Information System Design, Web Services, Cloud Computing, and Network Security.
He has previous start-up experience as Co-Founder and CEO of eXcentric Works, specializing in pure high-performance XML, Web Service and SOA solutions. He also worked with start-up Tarari Inc. and continued as Engineering Manager at LSI when they acquired Tatari in 2007 for $85 million. Sen holds two M.S. degrees in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University, and an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering Arizona State University.
Risto PaldaniusSVP Commercial & Integration
Risto Paldanius brings 20 years of experience from different fields of the power generation industry. He has wide experience from different thermal power generation technologies when working at Pöyry as a consultant and as project manager for different power plant projects. While leading General Electric’s Energy Services sales in North Europe, he has gained Gas turbine power plant life cycle optimization and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) sales experience. He also gained an in-depth knowledge about deregulated electricity markets while working at Fortum (a Finnish utility company) as a Key Account Manager for the largest industrial Finnish electricity consumers.
In the last seven years he has held several positions at Wärtsilä Energy Solutions. First as head of Advisory Services, conducting power system studies and feasibility models for different electricity markets and also project-specific feasibility studies. He has also lead the Europe & Africa Area, responsible for the area’s business development, sales, sales support and project delivery functions, with a half a billion P&L responsibility. In his latest position, he played a key role in developing the co-operative relationship and agreement with Greensmith, culminating as the lead of the due diligence team and eventually leading to the acquisition.
Risto Paldanius has Master of Science degree in power plant engineering from Helsinki University of Technology, Finland.
